We as a community must find ways to live together in harmony and learn to appreciate one another's cultures and traditions. The Community Dinner encourages people from all sectors of the community to join together to share a meal, enjoy entertainment and build lasting friendships. Last year over 600 people enjoyed a meal and musicale highlighting the rich talent and generosity that characterize Orange County. We hope that you will want to be a part of the Tenth Annual Community Dinner and will consider sponsoring a family.

Group donations are noted on our home page as sponsors, along with a link to the sponsor's website. Click here for our individual Donors list.

Feed a Family of Four for $22.00

A donation of $22.00 will feed two adults and two children. Help if you can! Click here to make your pledge. Click here for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce flyer.

Feeding 600 plus people and all of our entertainers is a daunting task. Mildred Council, from Mama Dip's Kitchen, will coordinate the menu and, together with Chef Brian Stapleton from the Carolina Inn, Bon from Bon's Barbeque, the folks from Bandido's Cafe in Carrboro, Chapel Hill & Hillsborough, and Tandoor Indian Restaurant, will provide the basis of the Dinner's main course. We will need additional food and again this year we are hoping to get many local restaurants and businesses involved in this celebration.

Last year over ninety organizations, including twenty-five restaurants, gave generously to the event. Your contribution is tax deductible, and, as a participant you will be recognized as a contributor in all our publicity, on our website and at the Dinner. The event will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 1:00 pm in the McDougle Schools Cafeteria in Carrboro.

The Community Dinner is not a fundraising but a community building event and our fiscal agent is The Orange County Department of Human Rights and Relations. All food donations go directly to the dinner and most of the financial support buys tickets for many people with disabilities, including economically challenged families.

Checks should made payable to the Orange County Dept. of Human Rights and Relation/Community Dinner, and sent to Nerys Levy at 161 Swansea Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. If you have any questions, please contact Nerys at 932-1533 or rilevy@mindspring.com. She will be happy to provide you with additional information and to answer any questions you may have. Please email Nerys with your pledge by February 20, 2008.
